On to the next book…

I have a confession to make. You’re probably going to have to wait a while for Book 3, Playing a Dark Game. I’m a slow writer, and though it’s three-quarters written and the core plot is complete, one or two of the new characters have still got stuff up their sleeves that I haven’t pried out yet. For instance, one’s started looking like Stephen Fry, but behaves more like Doc Martin*. I know there’s more to his back story; and I won’t be happy till I winkle it out.
That’s the trouble with being a writer. It’s a constant clash between the desire to polish each manuscript forever, and the urge to get it out there.
Give me till Christmas and I can probably give you a clue when it might appear…
* Apologies to non-UK readers, you probably have no idea who Doc Martin is (though hopefully you’re aware of the national treasure that is Mr. Fry). Doc Martin is a dour, even misanthropic doctor in a sleepy Cornish village who manages to deliver good medical help despite his grumpiness (and the apparent craziness of half the village).
